About Shyla
My name is Shyla, and I am currently in my second year of college. Math has always been one of my favorite subjects, even during times when it felt challenging. When I struggled, having someone in my corner made a huge difference in my confidence and understanding. My goal is to be that person for you—someone who supports you, explains concepts clearly, and helps math feel more manageable. I strive to create a positive, encouraging learning environment where you can ask questions comfortably and feel confident in your ability to succeed and pass your class.

My approach to tutoring is patient, supportive, and focused on helping students really understand algebra instead of just memorizing steps. I break problems down in a clear, simple way and explain why each step works, which helps students feel less overwhelmed and more confident. A typical lesson starts with checking in on what the student is learning in class or where they feel stuck. From there, we review the basics, work through examples together, and then practice problems to make sure everything makes sense. I adjust each session to the student’s pace and learning style, and I always encourage questions. What sets me apart as a tutor is my focus on clarity and confidence. I know math can be stressful, so I aim to create a relaxed, judgment-free space where students feel comfortable learning. I mostly tutor algebra for middle school, high school, and introductory college students. I prefer in-person tutoring, but I’m also open to online sessions if needed.
