About Cameron
Here is some background information about me and my musical/teaching experience. I’m Cameron and I am currently a 2nd year student at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh. I began playing the violin aged 6, subsequently studying percussion and piano aged 11. From 2014 to 2018 I attended The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland as a junior student, studying violin and percussion. Whilst at school I was a member of the Fife Youth Orchestra which I led in my final two years. I was also a member of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Symphony Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland where I played violin. Over the last few years I have performed in orchestras for both adult and children’s musical theatre productions, performing both drums and percussion. I also perform regularly with several ceilidh bands as well as a Rock/Pop/Covers band. Now at University I perform in the Orchestra and String Quartet. Due to my wide range of musical experience and interests, I am able to perform and teach an extensive variety of musical styles on my various instruments.
I have achieved the following music qualifications: ABRSM Grade 8 Violin (Distinction), ABRSM Grade 8 Percussion (Distinction), SQA Higher Music (A Grade), SQA Advanced Higher Music (A Grade), ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory. I also perform piano to Grade 7 standard. I am very familiar with both ABRSM and Trinity Music Exams Grades 1-8 and I am happy to take students through these examinations if they so wish.

I am well organised, professional, enthusiastic and creative. I have excellent communication skills, and always try to ensure my lessons are fun and engaging, always tailored to the individual needs of the pupil. I can teach lessons on how to read music, technique, exercises, I can also write music/notation for my pupils. As a follow-up to my lessons, students will be sent notes on their lesson and steps to take to progress before the next lesson.
I have previously conducted lessons on my various instruments with both children and adults, both one-to-one lessons and workshops for larger groups at music festivals. I demonstrate the ability to communicate and work well with all ages when volunteering at my local Cub pack. On a weekly basis, I plan and run events with other leaders, passing on my scouting skills and experiences. This also means that I hold a PVG. Both my parents are teachers, one of whom is a professional musician and music teacher.
