About Joshua
I’m a psychology graduate with several years of experience working with young people, including in SEN education, mentoring, tutoring and sports coaching. My background has given me a strong understanding of how confidence, attention, communication and learning style can affect academic progress.
I work best with students who need patience, clear explanations and a tutor who can adapt the lesson around how they actually learn. My aim is to make maths feel more manageable, rebuild confidence, and help students develop skills they can carry into school and exams.

Hallo, I’m Josh
I provide one-to-one maths support for students from primary level up to GCSE, including learners who may need a more patient, confidence-focused or SEN-informed approach.
My tutoring is built around understanding how each student thinks, not just whether they get the answer right or wrong. Many students struggle with maths because they have gaps in earlier skills, low confidence, processing difficulties, anxiety around mistakes, or because school explanations have not matched the way they learn. I focus on identifying bottlenecks, barriers and building maths back up in a clear, manageable way.
I can support students with:
- Primary maths and SATs preparation
- KS3 maths
- GCSE Foundation maths
- Number skills, fractions, decimals and percentages
- Algebra, ratio, graphs and problem-solving
- Exam confidence and question interpretation
- Students with SEN, dyslexia, ADHD, autism, language-processing difficulties, or low confidence
Sessions are calm, structured and adapted to the learner, for some students, that means clear step-by-step teaching and repeated practice. For others, it means using visual examples, games, real-life contexts, interests, or shorter tasks to help maths feel less overwhelming.
I work well with students who have lost confidence, avoid maths, struggle to explain their thinking, or need teaching that feels less rushed than school. The aim is not just to get through worksheets, but to help the student understand what they are doing and feel more capable over time. I usually begin by getting a sense of the student’s current confidence, gaps, learning style and goals, then build a plan from there.
I offer online one-to-one sessions and can adapt the approach depending on the student’s age, needs and exam targets.

My son Oscar has had his IB exams this year, and Josh has been superb throughout with teaching IB Psychology and generally helping him refine his approach to exams and his EE. Would highly recommend.
joshua has really helped little jacob with english and general self-confidence! Thanks joshua :)
Joshua did some great work with my son. He went from not very talkative and capable to a very talkative and capable young man and I was very proud of the work he put in. Joshua‘s guidance and encouragement was very helpful. We have seen a marked improvement in James's school work. His teachers have been surprised. I totally recommend Joshua if you’re child requires specialist learning help.
Joshua is a brilliant teacher, the time & effort he puts into his lessons is phenomenal and I am incredibly grateful for all the help you have provided. The lessons were so valuable, thank you Joshua!
