About Boon Kiat
I am a passionate STEM teacher who once struggled so hard trying to achieve perfection in my studies due to the underlying learning struggles. I managed to come out of it scoring straight A and moved on to pursue a medical degree to lift my family's name. Teaching has always been my passion as I'm passionate about knowledge sharing, hence, after completing my medical studies and earning a bachelor's degree, I pursued a teaching career, teaching Cambridge A-levels & IGCSE Chemistry locally for the first 4 years, before subsequently teaching Cambridge A levels & IGCSE Biology abroad for another 4 years.

Learning any new subject is like learning a foreign language.
Rote memorisation is necessary to build a solid foundation.
Once the basic is solid, understanding can eventually take place for progress to be made.
I am known to vary the activities needed to build the solid foundation, through verbal / communication or administering certain student centered activities.
Once acertain level of mastery has been achieved, other student centered activities associated with higher level of cognition (e.g. data analysis, experimental design, knowledge application) will be administered (instead of expecting learners to continue regurgitating knowledge). This is to ensure learners know what they are trying to remember, and know what to do with them, instead of using it only for the purpose of passing the exams.
