About Orla
I have been playing and teaching guitar for over 11 years, holding a Bachelor of Music Education with a focus on guitar. Music has always been my passion, and I love composing and arranging pieces that bring ideas to life. My teaching philosophy is both structured and engaging, ensuring every student progresses while enjoying the journey.
I emphasize a strong foundation in scales, modes, and rhythm training to help students build technical confidence. Songwriting and arranging are integral parts of my lessons, encouraging creativity alongside technique. I also provide performance coaching, helping students develop stage presence and musical expression.
Over the years, I have mentored intermediate to advanced students, guiding those aiming for professional careers in music. I focus on tailoring lessons to each student’s goals, whether it’s mastering complex solos, composing original pieces, or preparing for auditions. My sessions balance theory, practical skills, and creative exploration.
I am dedicated to creating a supportive and inspiring environment where students feel motivated to grow. Watching students gain confidence and develop their unique musical voice is the most rewarding part of my work. My teaching approach focuses on helping students of all levels explore the guitar with confidence and creativity. I start by understanding each student’s goals and musical interests. Lessons are structured to build technical skills like finger placement, strumming, and picking while keeping music fun and engaging.
I emphasize musical storytelling through melody, harmony, and rhythm. We explore dynamic contrast, learning how soft and loud passages create emotion in a song. Tension and release are introduced to help students make music that feels alive and moving. Theme development is practiced so students can compose and improvise with intention.
I include subjects like chord progressions, scales, music theory, sight-reading, ear training, improvisation, and song arrangement. We also cover specialized styles such as rock, worship music, jazz, blues, and acoustic fingerstyle.
I guide students to excel in performance, whether leading on stage, playing in a band, or composing their own pieces. Each lesson balances technique, expression, and creativity. I encourage practice routines that are effective yet enjoyable. Feedback is constructive and focused on growth.
My goal is to inspire passion for the guitar while helping students reach their personal musical potential. Lessons are adaptable, supportive, and designed to make learning rewarding.
