About Romeo
I studied education and humanities at Mills College, where I excelled academically and was awarded a scholarship for my work in curriculum development. I have professional experience as a 3rd grade and Pre-K classroom teacher and a theater educator for all ages. I also edited for and tutored peers and friends in an unofficial capacity throughout college.

My work as an educator is rooted in building confidence and self-worth in students which allows them to thrive even with challenging subject matter.
Students who work with me will not only gain fluency in the material we're working on, but will learn to approach learning in less stressful, more rewarding ways. That might mean learning the best ways to structure breaks, or finding the interesting core in a topic they initially hated. I make sure to tailor lessons to give my students the most holistically beneficial learning outcomes, not just a session of robotically drilling facts and figures.
As a tutor I focus on asking guiding questions, and encouraging students to build new ways of thinking about material. Often, I will approach problems as if we're working together to solve it, rather than having a top-down approach to teaching. I'll give nudges in the right direction, ask students to explain ideas or processes to me, and give pointers and reframes rather than spelling out answers right away.
I think it's vital that students understand how and why they are learning, so they strengthen metacognition and develop an actual relationship with their work.
This approach to teaching has served me and my students well across age and subject. Because of my background studying education and child development, I can confidently work with students 6-14 on any subject, though I personally love history and language arts. At higher levels, I am well-equipped to tutor in the humanities, especially working with students to write and edit papers/essays. I'm also always thrilled to coach young actors, as my life outside of education is deeply rooted in theatre and performance, and I discovered my love of teaching working in youth theatre programs.
