About Alexis

Hello and welcome! My name is Alexis, and I’m here to help you succeed in your science journey. As a third-year Health Sciences student at Wilfrid Laurier University with a minor in Biology and Chemistry, I’ve worked hard to build a solid foundation in both chemistry and biology. Currently serving as the Vice President of the Laurier Chemistry Association, I've risen through various roles over the years, including First Year Representative and Outreach Executive. Through these experiences, I’ve developed strong leadership and mentoring skills, which I’m excited to bring to my tutoring sessions.

I'm also an aspiring dentist with a genuine passion for helping others succeed. My dedication to excellence and my drive to support students’ growth means I’m committed to providing a learning experience that is not only informative but also inspiring. Whether it’s mastering complex concepts or preparing for exams, I’m here to make your learning journey engaging and successful.

With my qualifications and experience in teaching high school science and first-year chemistry, you can count on a professional, supportive, and results-driven environment. Let’s work together to achieve your academic goals—I’m here to support you every step of the way!

Teaching Methodology and Techniques: My tutoring approach emphasizes active learning and concept mastery. I aim to simplify complex topics by breaking them into digestible sections and using real-life examples to make the material relatable and memorable. I also incorporate questioning techniques to encourage critical thinking and ensure that students not only understand the material but can apply it independently. To cater to different learning styles, I adapt my sessions with visual aids, practice problems, and hands-on exercises to reinforce the material.

Typical Lesson Plan: A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previously covered topics to reinforce retention. I then introduce the day’s objectives and break down the main concepts into manageable steps. We work through practice questions together, and I encourage the student to try some independently as I guide them as needed. Each session ends with a recap and discussion of any challenging areas to ensure the student feels confident moving forward. I also assign light review tasks or questions, depending on the student’s goals and needs.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor: As a third-year health sciences student and vice president of the Laurier Chemistry Association, I have hands-on experience in advanced scientific concepts and a strong foundation in biology and chemistry. My background enables me to offer insights into how these subjects connect to real-world applications, which helps students grasp the importance of what they are learning. Additionally, my leadership role has refined my ability to communicate effectively, providing clear explanations and engaging students in a way that makes learning both enjoyable and impactful.

Who the Lessons Are For: My tutoring services are designed for high school students studying science, particularly those enrolled in biology or chemistry courses. I also cater to first-year university students who need additional support in introductory chemistry. Whether the goal is to improve grades, prepare for exams, or gain a deeper understanding of scientific principles, my sessions are tailored to meet each student’s unique needs.
