About Tina
- What kind of experience do you have?
I work with children from ages 4 to 16. Many of my students either do not have English as a first language, or speak little English at home. I work in both a private capacity with children, as well as at a tuition centre. Some of my students have not been in the UK for long, but with consistent help with their English they soon catch up with their classmates.
I also tutor adults privately. My adult students have English as a second or third language and want to improve their speaking, writing, grammar and vocabulary.
I have worked in social care too, mainly with children and the elderly. This sector has helped with my communication skills greatly and I believe this is one of the most important skills to hold if you are an English tutor!
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
No, I don't, but I'm happy to have one done if a parent feels uncomfortable employing me without a DBS check.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students bring me a lot of happiness and joy, as I love seeing the smaller ones grow in height and personality and the older ones grow in confidence. I feel lucky to have loyal clients who let me into their home and feel my English skills are worth parting money for. I love listening to their views on the text in question and trying to make sense of their handwriting!

I am friendly, outgoing, and easy to be around. I am passionate about English in its spoken and written forms and I have formed good relationships with the students and families I currently work with. I am reliable, punctual and flexible.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach English - language and literature.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have 9 GCSEs, 3 A Levels and an AS Level, an NVQ in Health and Social Care and a BA (2:1) in History from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. I am also qualified to teach English as a foreign language; I hold a CELTA qualification.
- How much do you charge?
I charge between £10.00 (early years) and £20.00 (GCSE) per hour. These rates apply if the student comes to me. Rates will increase by up to £4.00 if I go to the client's home.
For adults looking to improve their English I charge between £13.00 (conversation only) and £20.00 (short-term exam (IELTS, CAE, FCE) preparation). These rates apply if the student comes to me. Rates will increase by up to £4.00 if I go to the client's home.
- Where do you teach?
I teach either at the student's home, or at a library easily accessed by me and the student.
I teach mainly in central Ilford, but I am willing to travel to Manor Park, Barking, Seven Kings, Newbury Park, Gants Hill and Redbridge.
- When are you available?
I am available any weekday up to 4pm, weekday evenings (my availability depends on when I have students), weekend evenings.
The later or earlier you can make a lesson; the likelier I am to be available.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All levels of English up to GCSE, ages 4- 16.
Adults learning English as a foreign language - any level (absolute beginners - advanced) and any age.
