About Toby
I have played guitar for nearly 14 years now and have been in bands since I was 13. When I was 22 I went to live in Bahia, Brazil where I taught guitar to children at the school I worked at. I am also a composer and music producer.

I pride myself on having a results-oriented but relaxed and not too serious teaching style. I look to create an environment where my student can feel safe to make mistakes as I believe this is very important for improvement. I was lucky enough to have a really inspiring guitar teacher when I was younger. He made my experience of learning the instrument, especially in the early days, absolutely joyous and straight forward. I strive to give the exact same experience to all my students. A big part of this is an early emphasis on learning simple chords and teaching them to play along to songs they like as soon as possible. This approach makes the instrument actually fun and helps students see their own massive creative potential, which I believe is blocked by the standard approach to teaching music.
