About Madison
I’m an award-winning UCLA instructor and PhD candidate in Geography with several years of experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. I’ve taught courses in human geography, GIS, environmental politics, globalization, and urban studies, and have worked with hundreds of UCLA students at a wide range of academic levels.
What I enjoy most about teaching is helping students reach the point where something that once felt confusing or intimidating finally clicks. My students have consistently described me as approachable, patient, encouraging, and skilled at breaking down difficult concepts into clear, manageable pieces.
I also care deeply about mentorship. In addition to subject tutoring, I’ve helped students strengthen their academic writing and research skills, adjust to college, develop independent research projects, explore academic opportunities, and develop the skills necessary to succeed in a college environment.
My goal is to create a supportive, low-pressure environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing confidence in their own abilities. I want students to leave our sessions not only understanding the material better, but feeling more capable of tackling the next challenge independently.

My teaching style is supportive, practical, and tailored to each student’s goals. I focus on helping students understand concepts rather than simply memorizing material, and I adapt lessons based on their class, assignment, skill level, and learning style.
A typical lesson might include reviewing course material, breaking down a difficult concept, working through an assignment or research question, and developing a clear plan for next steps. For writing and research support, I can help with brainstorming, finding and evaluating sources, organizing arguments, outlining, revising, and improving academic writing.
As a PhD candidate at UCLA with university teaching experience, I bring both subject expertise and firsthand knowledge of college-level expectations. I can also help students develop broader academic skills such as time management, study strategies, research skills, and navigating complex assignments.
My lessons are best suited for high school and college students seeking support in geography, GIS, history, and the social sciences, as well as students preparing for college or looking to strengthen their academic and research skills.
