I try to approach my teaching as practically as possible, believing that a hands on approach is best for Drama. However, I am flexible and have a good understanding of the syllabus requirements for academic drama and individual (LAMDA-type) examinations across various different boards.
I have been working with developing drama skills in younger students since the age of 14, and have received an A * in GCSE Drama and an A at A-level (with full marks in acting and directing). I'm a member of the National Youth Theatre and have performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and am currently heavily involved in student Drama at the University of Birmingham.
I am happy to offer a free first lesson for online students, but unfortunately not for students who wish to study at their own home. I am more than happy to do a free online lesson for these students, and then proceed to have paid lessons which I will travel for. Cancellation policy is that I require 48hours notice for the student to be refunded. Unfortunately, I will not be able to offer a refund if a lesson is cancelled after this time.
I have worked alongside Jack teaching drama to children of varying ages and abilities, including peers. He is a natural communicator - patient, kind and utterly enamoured with all aspects of theatre. Drawing on a wealth of personal experience, having acted in and directed school and amateur productions for most of his life, Jack is always eager to share the knowledge and skills he has accumulated. A rare blend of excellent teaching abilities, talent and passion!
Jack and I were friends at school and he informally tutored me for a good three years. At the end of those three years he tutored me in drama while I was the main character in a play. In the end his tutoring took me to the level where I won the "best actor" award for playing the main character in a competition between 6 plays.
Jack has a patient, kind style of tutoring, and has done almost every role in theatre, including acting, directing, writing, costume design, and set design. He has a great talent of breaking down scenes and lines to their essences.
Despite being funny and personable, I've never seen Jack waste time in getting into what needs to be done for a particular play, scene, character, or essay.
There are normally two types of tutors - those that know the material and the syllabus well, and those that actually understand the purpose behind the syllabus. Jack manages to blend these two together to create the best of both worlds.
I cannot recommend Jack enough as a teacher. He is incredibly engaging, motivational and patient and really wants his students to succeed. He directed me in a play last year and I really felt I improved as an actor under his direction. Not to mention he is a lot of fun!
