About Kathryne
A performer and teacher of nine years, Kathryne Kilby is a dedicated and accomplished clarinetist with extensive experience performing in ensembles and orchestras since 2017. She has served as the principal clarinetist for the Winston-Salem Youth Orchestra, Winston-Salem Youth Philharmonic, Appalachian Youth Orchestra, Winston-Salem Youth Symphony, UNCSA wind ensemble, and Piedmont Honor Band. Additionally, she has showcased her skills in competitive settings, earning positions in the All-State Honors Band, All-District Symphonic Band, and All-County Honors Band.
Kathryne has studied under esteemed instructors such as Kania Mills, Dr. Espina Ruiz, Sydney Lusby, and Soo Goh. She has participated in masterclasses with renowned musicians, most notably Anthony McGill, Oskar Espina-Ruiz, Andy Hudson, and Charles Neidich. Currently, Kathryne is a UNCSA high school alumna, and is pursuing further conservatory training at Mannes School of Music, studying under Jon Manasse.

My teaching style is patient, thoughtful, and thorough. I love helping students achieve their goals by providing constructive and meaningful feedback during lessons. I’m also more than happy to give feedback from recordings that students send me! Several of my students have gone on to win auditions for excellent schools, youth orchestras, and competitions.
