I'm a very science-oriented person, and my main interest is in human physiology and immunology, but also the biological sciences in general. As a tutor, I aim to target IB students but am also willing to assist A-level or GCSE students.
I was previously an IB student, studying biology and chemistry at a higher level. I am proud to say that I achieved the bilingual diploma with a final score of 41/45.
My style of teaching is focused on getting students to understand the main concepts of biology and encouraging them to make connections between the different topics taught in their biology syllabus. I start by going through the concepts and topics with them to establish background knowledge, but then I'll start to ask them questions that require them to use knowledge of multiple concepts to answer.
Of course, if there's something immediate that the student wants to address then I'd be more than happy to help them out. I'm not perfect and I can't claim to know everything but I'll always answer questions to the best of my ability, and if I can't I'll make sure to find out the answers!
I have tutored before, helping my juniors in high school with their IB biology and chemistry studies. After graduating, the science department at my high school would invite me in to help explain difficult concepts to my juniors or assist them with scientific writing. On several occasions, I helped coach my juniors who took part in science competitions held in Singapore. Some of my students even won gold medals in these competitions.
As I'm teaching, I always ask the one question my teachers always repeated to me: "Why does learning this matter?". I want my students to realise that the things they learn about are important. They have uses and applications in the real world, and they are the results of hundreds of years of scientific research.
I am currently an undergraduate student in my second year of the BSc Medical Sciences programme at the University of Exeter. I received the Dean's commendation for exceptional performance in my first year.
I previously completed the IB diploma programme with a final score of 41/45 at Sinarmas World Academy in Indonesia.
I have also worked as an intern in Professor Yalun Arifin's bioengineering lab at Prasetiya Mulya University in Indonesia and as an intern at Siloam Hospitals in Indonesia.
