About Rainier
I have been a career musician for a total of 12 years, and have undertaken performances in numerous genres.
These have included solo guitar/vocal residencies, drum and guitar accompaniment for dance shows, choral recitals, indie rock shows, and lead roles in musical theatre.
I have performed for a range of audiences, from evenings of less than ten people to multiple nights in front of a crowd of more than 700.
I am skilled on nylon and steel string acoustic guitars, solid and hollow body electrics, electric and acoustic bass guitars.
I’m also a well-practiced drummer on both the standard kit and several types of hand drums, and have been trained formally in Nepal on the Nepalese Maadal.
I am a trained singer as well, and I have abilities on keys, with production software, and with tune composition.
In addition to music, I love to cook, to travel, to swim in the ocean, to have pints of Beamish, and to learn other languages.
I believe I am a well-qualified guide for the next stage of excellence in music.

I am attentive to the individual musical interests of my students and always start by asking which skills they would like to use as a baseline for their course.
I give as many or as few practice exercises as are required, and I understand that each student will progress at their own pace.
I specifically enjoy teaching traditional folk fingerpicking and standard jazz chord theory, as well as UK classic rock ballads.
I work with students on electric, acoustic, and bass guitar.
