About Mike
As a fully qualified teacher (QTS) with a PhD and a triple first-class degree from the University of Cambridge, I deliver bespoke, highly engaging and carefully structured academic support for families within Central London.
I focus on breaking down complex syllabus topics into manageable chunks for students, coaching rigorous exam techniques and building lasting academic confidence.
For your complete peace of mind, I hold a fully up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate, verifiable by clients on the GOV.UK Update Service website, via a quick and easy link shared once a booking is made. Academic qualifications and relevant credentials will be available to verify in person at our first session, along with full photo ID.
PLEASE NOTE: In alignment with Superprof requirements for newly launched profiles, a 'First Lesson Free' tag is displayed on this listing. This introductory session will be conducted as a free diagnostic phone consultation with parents to review the student's current syllabus, mock exam results, and target milestones, and need not last the full length of time listed here. For your convenience and in most cases, this need only be a quick chat and should not take more than a few minutes of your time. All full length in-person academic lessons are charged at normal rates.

My teaching style reflects the overall guiding principle that empowered my own journey through education, namely a focus on a genuine enjoyment of learning. By appealing to an individual learner’s interests, strengths and experiences, lessons can be shaped in an engaging, relevant and enjoyable way, thereby inspiring a genuine motivation and enthusiasm for learning.
Structuring a student's learning journey is of paramount importance, and starts with a clear discussion of the overall aims and objectives the student is working towards and the particular framework and circumstances within which to structure a lesson sequence. Ongoing monitoring of progress allows constant adaptation of lessons, while working towards interim goals or assessment targets. Any strengths and/or gaps in learning that are detected immediately inform the ongoing shape and structure of lessons.

Mike is an inspiring teacher who knows how to motivate his students. He is engaging, kind and highly knowledgeable about his subjects. Thanks to his great support and guidance our three children are extremely proud of their outstanding academic results and two of our three children have taken exams since receiving Mike's tutoring and both of them had excellent exam results and are grateful for the challenges Mike set out for them and the motivation he provided along the way to help them achieve these results. Indeed, one of our sons obtained a perfect score on the maths portion of the exam, something that only about 1.5% to 2% of all children across England attain. I am so grateful for all of Mike's support and guidance. He is amazing and does an excellent job at structuring his tutoring to meet our kids goals, help them identify and strengthen their weak points and challenge themselves to achieve more.
