About Adam
For the past year, I have worked extensively as a drama teacher in different drama clubs across South West London and recently in lunchtime/aftercare work in two primary schools. As a drama teacher, my experience has been mainly with children at primary level, aged 4-11, but with my work at PQA on a Saturday morning I have also had experience of working with young people aged 11-15 in comedy and drama. My work as a drama teacher in schools and clubs has given me a better understanding of how to work with a variety of different young people from a mix of backgrounds and abilities. Although I have not got an NQT and am not a qualified teacher, I am looking into getting my teaching qualification and gain some experience by working in a private secondary school. Throughout the last year, I have worked for Pauline Quirke Academy Greenwich, Wimbledon Drama Academy, Don Rae Academy of Music and Drama and Perform Children’s drama school as well as this I lead a Monday afternoon small drama workshop within the main after-school club I am currently working at. I have found that it is very important to interact with the students during the lunch breaks and classes but during my voluntary TA work with Mr. Moore I have developed my own skills in discipline and how to control a classroom of children. The lessons in music are very high octane and are an excellent channel of creativity for the children but it requires intense discipline which is something I have learnt to control in a large classroom of energetic children. I have also worked with a small group of children from year 2 during Lunchtime to help with their behaviour in the playground. This has been an invaluable experience that has expanded my awareness of dealing with challenging groups of children and given me a good experience in how to deal with difficulties in behaviour. As a teacher, I am a unique and creative individual with a lot of experience of working as an actor in the performing arts industry. I have worked in film and theatre both residential and touring. I am also part of a comedy Improv group that does regular gigs in and around London. These experiences as an actor/performer have given me a lot of knowledge of the industry that will be invaluable to the students. Due to my work in after school care, I have taken online courses in childcare through Edu-Care that cover Bullying, online safety, Safeguarding, keeping children safe in education 2018, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Food Hygiene and safety and Fire safety in education. These courses have equipped me with a comprehensive knowledge of childcare and safeguarding in education which means that I can complete my duties whilst adhering to the policies on child safety and safeguarding. I work with young people in a creative and interactive way that encourages them to be the best of themselves. My approach is to teach with openness, kindness, and respect for the children who encourage creative learning in both the classroom and the world outside. I believe that teaching children in this way makes learning not only fun but also a unique experience. Being a teacher for young people means a lot to me, it is a career that I want to excel in. I am still learning, doing courses and currently, I am researching a variety of drama curriculums in Key stages 3 and 4 and GCSE education for the role. My degree was a BA (Hons) in World Performance, which is a course which has trained me in intercultural performance which is something I have a keen interest in and sets me apart from most teachers as I will be able to teach the students in a variety of different theatre styles and practices from all around the world giving them a well-rounded education. Adam started work at Atwood Primary Academy in November 2018 to the position of Lunch Supervisor.
Adam is extremely polite to all adults and has a good relationship with the children he supports throughout the lunch service. He is very enthusiastic and also volunteers within the music department (which is a clear passion of his) his enthusiasm is infectious and he has worked hard at how this impacts on the children;s learning and those with more challenging behaviour.
