About Katherine

I am currently an undergraduate student at the Royal College of Music, and an alumnus of both The Yehudi Menuhin School, and The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. During my time at Menuhin, I tutored younger students in violin every week, and taught theory and aural to students outside of the school, helping them pass classes, grades and reach their goals.
I also participated in a programme that gave me the opportunity to play for students between the ages of 4 and 9 with special needs, which opened a whole new world for me in terms of exploring what music can do.

About the lesson

For lessons I offer the following:
Violin from beginner to grade 6
Theory (including aural) from beginner to grade 5

I have typically taught students from age 4 to 13, however I am open to teaching students of any age up to grade 6. I am also flexible with lessons lasting up to an hour: half an hour or forty-five minute lessons are offered.

In terms of teaching technique, my lessons ultimately come down to the students themselves. For younger beginners, it’s important for the lessons to not only set them up correctly, but to be fun and engaging, so that they want to continue to learn and practise outside of the lessons. As they grow as people and musicians, a key element of music is learning how to teach themselves, using techniques they learn in their lessons. Every student is different, so adapting to what works best for them individually is crucial. I want my students to develop a genuine enjoyment of music, alongside the skills and confidence that will benefit them whether the long-term goal is to be a successful musician, or just to learn an instrument for fun.
