About Waheeda

- What kind of experience do you have?

I initially taught mathematics in secondary schools, before moving into private tuition in 2008. I have experience teaching large classes of more than 30 students, smaller groups and individual students. Over the years I have worked with individuals ranging from ages 6 to 40. Working with such a diverse range of students in different settings has given me an insight into different learning styles, and I am able to adapt my teaching methods to suit the needs of my students.

Having taught both primary and secondary students for almost a decade I have in depth knowledge of the national curriculum and the requirements of the different examination boards at GCSE. I have also helped prepare many students for the Birmingham and Walsall eleven plus entrance exams. I have helped students successfully gain places at the various King Edwards Grammar Schools (including Camp Hill), Handsworth Grammar for boys and Queen Mary's High School. I have also helped students secure scholarships at private schools.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes, from my time registered with a tutoring agency when I initially began tutoring.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I teach both primary and secondary students in all 3 of the core subjects, so I have a diverse range of students.

A number of my current year 11 GCSE English, maths and science students have been moved from the foundation tier onto the higher tier. This gives them the opportunity to aim for a grade above a C, which would not have been possible on the foundation tier.

Some of my previous 11plus students, who are currently in year 6 at primary school, are taking their GCSE maths exams this summer.

After initially training as a secondary school maths teacher I now tutor full time from my purposely renovated premises in Handsworth. I believe confidence and strong basic skills form the foundations of success.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I provide tuition in English, maths and science , as well as preparing students for the 11+ entrance exam.

KS2 students usually come in for 1 hour per week for a combination of maths and English. KS3 students also have the option of attending a combined maths and English class, and we offer a 1 hour maths class and a 1 hour English class for those who wish to concentrate on just the 1 subject.

Key Stage 2
1 hour Maths & English
2 hour Eleven Plus (English, Maths, Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning)

Key Stage 3
1 hour Maths & English
1 hour Maths
1 hour English
1 hour Science

GCSE Year 10 and 11
1 hour Maths
1 hour English
1hour Science

If you are an adult or older student who requires any of the following: GCSE English, maths or science; A level maths or science tuition; or help preparing for the QTS skills tests, then please contact me with your requirements and, schedule permitting, I can offer small group or individual tuition outside of my normal timetable (prices depend on requirements).

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a passion for mathematics and the sciences, so naturally I chose to study biology, physics and maths at A level. I then went on the study for a degree in International Economics, before applying to do my PGCE in mathematics at Nottingham Trent University.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £12.50 per hour lesson. I provide exercise books, worksheets, revision materials, exam papers and access to online homework. All classes are one hour in duration, with the exception of Year 4 and 5 11+ classes which are 2 hours in duration.

I offer a free initial consultation. This gives parents and students an opportunity to meet me in person and ask any questions they may have. I also use this time to give students a short test to complete, which is then marked immediately, so I am able to give feedback on weaknesses and strengths. This helps me to decide which of my classes would be best suited to your child's needs, and forms the basis of your child's personal learning profile should you choose to start lessons with me. As mentioned previously the consultation/assessment is entirely free of charge and there is no obligation to start lessons.

- Where do you teach?

All lessons take place in my recently renovated building on Dawson Road in Handsworth (Birmingham). I find it is more effective than teaching students in their own home, as they are in a classroom setting, and we have the added benefit of having all my resources to hand.

- When are you available?

I offer weekly classes that are usually held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

My regular teaching hours are as follows (may vary):
Tue : 4:30 - 7:30 Key Stage 2
Wed: 3:00 - 7:00 Key Stage 2 & 3
Sat: 11:00 - 6:00 Key Stage 3 & GCSE
Sun: 11:00 - 4:00 Key Stage 2 & 11+

I am able to offer short term revision classes or adult tuition outside of my normal teaching hours.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

My regular weekly classes are for Key stage 2, 3 and GCSE students (years 3 to 11), but I do occasionally take A level students and adult learners.
