About Sanela

Experienced in teaching professional athletes, people with special needs, adults, children and babies.

I uphold the highest standards of discretion, ensuring every individual, celebrity and VIP client enjoys a private, secure and bespoke swimming experience tailored exclusively to their needs.

 I was a competitive swimmer from a young age and subsequently a gold medalist and record breaker in the 100m and 200m backstroke between 1986 - 1991 in Former Yugoslavia, competing in the 13 - 19-year-old age groups.

 I have also had the privilege of working with one of our country’s swimming Olympians, the late Mr. David Wilkie, MBE, during the 1990s, and I was part of the campaign before the London Olympics 2012 to narrow the gender gap in synchronized swimming. This advocacy contributed to the first-ever mixed duet gold medal for Great Britain at the FINA World Masters Championships in South Korea (2019) and paved the way for mixed teams debuting at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

 With over 30 years in the industry and more than 9,000 students worldwide in destinations as diverse as Chile, Rwanda, India, Japan and Europe, my primary goal is to improve clients’ relationship with water and promote freedom of movement.

I am also a FINA (International Swimming Federation) artistic swimming judge and an Advanced Open Water diver who enjoys spending time on liveaboards.

 In recognition of my dedication and impact in the field, I was honoured with a Certificate of Excellence in 2021, celebrating my contributions to elite swim coaching. Additionally, I was nominated for the London Award 2013 (Coach of the Year) and recognised as an Ambassador for Quality Teaching (2020).

 I take immense pride in my clients’ progress and achievements, knowing the commitment and dedication they invest in reaching their goals.

 Head Coach in a West London Club for the past 11 years.

 My coached clients have received notable media coverage, including features on the Andrew Marr Show (BBC), The Independent on Sunday, The Guardian, ABC News, Jo Brand’s Big Splash (Dave), Radio 4, Reuters, and Eurosport. I have also been featured in Health & Fitness, ID, and Vogue Magazines.

  A New Kind of Coaching: Inside and Out

 Swimming has always been at the core of my work but my background in biology and lifelong passion for science and wellbeing have expanded my approach beyond the pool.

 I support clients in and out of the water, helping them understand how their body is functioning, recovering and adapting not just physically but nutritionally and at the cellular level.

 We used to think of our genetic code as fixed,  a script we inherited and couldn’t change.  But we now know that our lifestyle choices can influence how our genes behave. What we eat, how we move, even where we live. All of these factors can shape our biological outcomes.

 This is the field of nutrigenomics, where biology meets behaviour. It helps us understand how our food, environment and habits can switch genes on or off,  guiding everything from metabolism and immune health to mood, skin and energy.

It’s a powerful reminder that we are not simply the product of our genes, but active participants in how they’re expressed.

 It’s also a reminder that ageing isn’t something we must simply surrender to. Many people unknowingly give up too soon, believing that decline is inevitable; a bit similar to thinking that you can't lear to swim at any age.
But what if your future health could be shaped more by your actions than your age?

You might be surprised what small, consistent changes can unlock.

 This is why I offer something unique as part of your swimming and wellness journey: a non-invasive scan that gives you a personalised snapshot of your antioxidant status which is a useful starting point to understand how well your nutrition is supporting your body.

 This is where the BioPhotonic Scanner comes in. In under a minute it provides a Skin Carotenoid Score — a simple, science-backed number showing how effectively your body is absorbing the protective nutrients found in fruit, vegetables and supplements.

 Think of it as a progress marker -  like stepping on a smart scale but for your nutritional defences.

The reading of your score will provide you with insight into how well your nutrition is supporting your body.

 Trusted Technology with Real Heritage

Developed at the University of Utah which is the same lab that pioneered the artificial heart this scanner is based on Nobel Prize-winning science known as Raman Spectroscopy. It’s been refined over decades to become a reliable, portable tool that gives you tangible insight into your nutritional health.
 It’s a quiet, understated innovation that’s already helped people across the globe gain more clarity on their health. But it’s your result that matters most giving you a clearer picture of where you are and what might help.

  No needles, no guesswork just clarity

Place your hand in front of a soft, low-energy blue light and you’ll receive an instant reading.
No invasive tests. No lab work. Just useful information to guide your next steps.

 Why This Matters (Especially for My Clients)

 1. If you're training hard, recovery depends on cellular health.
 2. If you're feeling tired or run-down, your antioxidant reserves may be low.
3.  If you’re investing in supplements, wouldn’t you want to know they’re actually working?
4.  If you're focused on long-term health, this gives you something tangible to track.
5.  Whether you’re returning from injury, prepping for competition or simply trying to feel more energised this scan gives us a starting point.

 From there, I offer tailored guidance: small, smart shifts to help your body work better.

 How It Works

  Personalised Scan
 A safe, fast test that shows how well your body is absorbing protective nutrients;

Clear Explanation
 We’ll go through the results together in simple terms;

Optional Support

You’ll leave with a better understanding of what’s working and what small changes might make a real difference.

Most of my clients want to feel clearer, stronger and more in control of their long-term health.

We work on that — in and out of the water.
1. Your Personalised Health & Resilience Scan: Complimentary with your swimming progress ;
2. This includes: • A quick, non-invasive scan — based on proven scientific methods;
3. A private wellness consultation;
4. Practical nutrition and lifestyle tips;
5. The opportunity to better understand your body and take the next step towards lasting wellness.

 Because when your body feels supported — everything else gets stronger too.

My greatest satisfaction always comes from seeing my clients enjoy their progress. Experience the difference between learning to swim and learning to swim the right way. Have a chance to become a swimmer who is powerful, graceful and effortless with any of the four strokes.

Whether working with nervous beginners who need to conquer their fear of water or with more advanced swimmers who want to reach triathlon or other swimming goals, I am certain that I can help you improve your results through supportive and experienced instruction.

I will help you develop body awareness with breathing techniques and swimming confidence in any of the four swimming strokes or synchronised swimming skills covering figures & sculling positions that you wish to achieve.

I also teach The Flow Form a unique approach to swimming that emphasises on body awareness, alignment and fluid movement. The method is designed to help swimmers move through the water with greater ease, efficiency and control while minimising unnecessary tension.
By focusing on smart swimming and breaking down each stroke into progressive movements, we ensure that every swimmer develops essential skills step by step. The technique prioritises quality over quantity, placing emphasis on body awareness, relaxed breathing and effortless propulsion rather than speed or distance.

By integrating rhythm, relaxation and range of movement, we help individuals develop a deep connection with the water. Each stroke is refined through structured yet intuitive learning, building confidence and technique in a way that feels natural.

"The Flow Form: A Structured & Accessible Path to Effortless Swimming"

The Flow Form is designed for those who prefer a structured yet cost-effective approach to mastering swimming. Unlike our fast-track private sessions, which focus on rapid skill acquisition in just 1–3 hours, the Flow Form offers a more gradual learning experience over 6–10 hours. This extended format provides excellent value, allowing for deeper skill reinforcement, greater confidence building and a more relaxed pace, making it accessible to a wider range of learners.

Helps:

️ Beginners & Water-Phobic Swimmers – Overcoming fear with gradual, pressure-free learning
️ Adults – Refining technique for smoother, more efficient strokes
️ Rehabilitation & Injury Prevention – Improving mobility while reducing strain

Through hands-on guidance, no swimming aids, and tailored instruction, the method promotes optimal body alignment and helps swimmers develop their skills with ease. Whether you’re learning to float, refining your stroke, or overcoming a lifelong fear of water ensuring a calm, supportive and empowering experience.

Find out more about Sanela

  • What age did you start playing sport? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.

    I have always been a bit of a water baby. I developed a passion for water sports from a young age and have a very wide background and knowledge of aquatic sports including swimming, synchronised swimming and waterpolo.

    I was a competitive swimmer and subsequently a gold medalist and record breaker in 100m and 200m backstroke between 1986 - 1991 in Former Yugoslavia.

    At later years as a master swimmer I practiced waterpolo and predominantly synchronised swimming. My swimming background helped but I had a lot to learn; control and poise became vitally important.

    As part of a synchronised swimming team I competed in the European and World Championships and have been a gold medalist in the solo event at National Masters Level Competition in the UK. I enjoyed camaraderie of the sport.
  • What are your favourite sports; those that you practise at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you'd still like to discover?

    My other hobbies include love for cars, reading, cooking and yoga. I would like to learn to ski.
  • What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue your sport?

    For me swimming has timeless allure. I feel free and at ease. It is one of the sports I will be able to enjoy until later years.
  • Do you have a sporting achievement that you're particularly proud of?

    In 1991, I moved to the UK. I then had the opportunity to swim with David Wilkie to raise money for The Leukaemia Trust and won best collection for the STORT Enterprise Trust.
  • How have your achievements and challenges made you a better sportsperson?

    A great component in doing any sport is the element of fun and enjoyment while practicing a new set of skills.

    I was fortunate enough to have supportive parents and coaches to provide me with the right guidance to start this journey. The rest of it was down to my own personal ambition.

    Being involved in sport has thought me how to deal with time management, follow the rules, be part of a team, accept a loss without making excuses, learn to respect others and deal with self - control.
  • If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?

    As a kid I remember watching brilliant Franz Klammer dominating ski slops during his time with a win after win in downhill cup titles.

    I would ask him how did he develop his ski style without being too aggressive and how did he manage to ski on the absolute edge yet stay in complete control at 80 mph?!
  • How do you help people stay motivated?

    I think it is important to create a good and positive environment that is fun. Like that students will value the enjoyment of sport above winning. Winning comes later once they feel entrench in sport they are practicing.
  • What makes you a Superprof in sports?

    Define your goal - stay focused - avoid the reasons not to do it - take small steps towards it - enjoy the journey in getting to your goal.
