My main objective is to get the student to fully understand the concept, not only learn the methods. This allows him or her to feel more confident in questions that differ from previouly practised ones. It also helps to build a foundation to better understand the following topics.
I usually start the lessons going over the theory. Once it is fully understood, we start doing excercises and puting this theory to practise to deepen the understanding. At the lesson I do a brief summary.
