About Johlee
Like I've mentioned, I am a medical student at Wits, however on top of that I love spending my free time with my friends and family or doing hyrox training.
I'm passionate about helping students gain confidence, enjoy learning and achieve their academic goals. I strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing the skills they need to succeed.

My name is Johlee Schoeman, and I am a third-year medical student at the University of the Witwatersrand. I matriculated in 2023, achieving 95% in Mathematics, 94% in Further Studies Mathematics, and 90% in Physical Sciences and Life Sciences.
I tutor Mathematics and Physical Sciences for students from Grade 8 to Grade 12. I currently tutor two Grade 9 students in Mathematics and Physical Sciences and have previously tutored a Grade 10 student in Physics, giving me experience with the IEB curriculum and the challenges students commonly face.
My teaching approach is centred on understanding each student's individual needs. Rather than simply working through content, I identify the underlying reason a student may be struggling—whether it's gaps in foundational knowledge, difficulty approaching complex questions, or ineffective study techniques. I then tailor each lesson to address those specific areas.
A typical lesson begins with a clear explanation of the topic, followed by worked examples and guided practice questions. This allows students to apply what they have learnt while giving me the opportunity to identify any remaining areas of uncertainty. My goal is not only to improve marks but also to build confidence and develop lasting problem-solving skills.
Having benefited from excellent tutoring myself throughout high school, I understand the difference the right tutor can make. That experience inspired my own teaching style, which is patient, encouraging and supportive. As a medical student, I have also developed strong communication, listening and teaching skills, allowing me to explain difficult concepts in a clear and approachable way.
