About Bruce
I have been successfully tutoring students in math, science, writing, and other academic subjects for over twenty years, and can provide references upon request. As an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, I have taught many courses at several Long Island colleges, including remedial math, algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, finite math, statistics, etc. My undergraduate degree is a B.S. in mathematics; my postgraduate training was primarily in physics (and later in Computer Science). My original research work began as a member of the Applied Mathematics Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory. My career in industry and management includes several years at Grumman, Robotic Vision, American Science, and other Long Island companies. I've also written and published thousands of pages of technical and non-technical articles, and served as editor for several journals.

My teaching/tutoring philosophy is to focus on underlying concepts, and to help each student better understand what is really going on -- rather than mere memorization of meaningless formulas & rote recitation of rules! Most of my students find me both "patient" and "tolerant" (check out the student feedback in my profile!), and many wind up loving a subject they initially thought they hated!
