About Sylar
My name is Sylar and outside of my academics I’m a huge fan of all sports. I’ve been playing soccer for almost 15 years and it’s one of the many sports I love. I love to spend my time cooking and enjoying food with the people I love. Back on the topic of academics, I’m in the top 10% of my class and I score in the top 5% of the ACT and the top 10% of the SAT. I am also an AP scholar and I’ve taken 9 APs (AP Calculus AB, AP Psych, AP Lang, AP Lit, AP Calculus BC, AP Enviro, AP Comp Gov, APUSH, and APHUG) and 7 AICE classes (AICE Marine, AICE Gen Paper, AICE Sociology, AICE Thinking Skills, AICE Media Studies, AICE Global Perspectives, and AICE Lang). I am a recipient of the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship for the ACT/SAT and I am an AP scholar.

When it comes to my teaching methods, I like to teach as I would have liked to learn. I never learned from the bland read off of a PowerPoint class and I found that I and my students learned better and retained more information through hands-on interactive learning techniques. For example, a typical lesson would include focusing on an area in which a student is struggling and tailoring the questions to fit their interests and preferred method of learning. This allows me to get to know my students and what they like while also getting them more interested in the material. My lessons are for elementary students who aren’t quite at the necessary level all the way to high school students who are prepping for standardized tests!
