About Alex

- What kind of experience do you have?

Having worked as a Physics researcher and teaching fellow at Aberystwyth University I relocated to London, where I pursued my career of tutoring. I have been tutoring in London since 2006, but had been tutoring privately and at Aberystwyth University since 2000. With a first in Physics I understand the demands of the Sciences and Mathematical subjects and I enjoy assisting students to better understand the topics. For several years I have been working with some of the more established and esteemed tutoring agencies in London.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I am currently applying for a CRB certificate.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I trained for my degree and PhD at the University of Wales Aberystwyth.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

Associate Member of the Institute of Physics.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

Currently I have several students studying IGCSE's and GCSE's in Mathematics and Double Science. I also tutor students in the American curriculum towards the AP in Physics and MAthematics.

As a child I was always asking questions - and through science, and particular physics I found a philosophy and structure for independent study that is transferable to all walks of life.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach mostly Mathematics and Physics to all levels. I will also teach the 3 sciences for GCSE standard or lower.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a First Degree in Physics (Hons) and a PhD in Material Physics from the University of Aberystwyth, Wales.

- How much do you charge?

All my fees include my travel expenses. I can also offer a reduction in the fee to students who can arrange lessons in the daytime and those who can travel to me in Earls court.

My fee is £40p/h.

- Where do you teach?

I currently have a collection of students in South Kensington, High St Kensington, Fulham and Earls Court.

I travel to the majority of my students homes, but can also tutor in local libraries or cafes.

I am willing to travel to most central and western locations of London.

- When are you available?

I am currently organising my schedule, so I have a flexibility in my schedule.

I am available most days from 9 am - 8pm

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach any age as long as I believe that private tutoring is required and will be of help to the student.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I prepare my UK students for GCSE, IGCSE, A-levels and degree level exams

I prepare my US students for the SAT, ACT, SAT 2 subject tests in Physics and Mathematics and AP in Physics and Mathematics
I've also prepare my US students for Algebra 1 and 2, Pre-Calculus and Calculus.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I like to encourage my students to question, to work through and find the answers in their own way - which generally leads to a fuller understanding.
