I like to tailor my lessons toward the individual needs of a student. However, during most of my lessons I like to go through basics of piano technique such as scales, theory, fingering, pedal work and how to create a nice tone.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I can help students who are interested in learning the basics of classical piano technique, theory, scales, blues and popular music. I also have a good working knowledge of AbletonLive music software and help students who want to make their own electronic music.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have completed my grades in the AMEB classical system (from Australia) up to grade 8
- How much do you charge?
The cost for lessons is £20 p/hr.
- Where do you teach?
I have a car and can come to your home anywhere in the Bristol or Bath area.
- When are you available?
I am available to teach every afternoon and evening of the week except for Wednesday and Saturday nights.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
5 yrs upwards.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Miles Davis once said: "Sometimes it takes a long time to sound like yourself." I have found that accepting this makes the journey of individual self-discovery a lot easier.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught privately since I was at university in 1997, and more recently at a private music school in Melbourne (references available). Since moving to England in 2008 I have started teaching privately again.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Where and with whom did you train?
I obtained my Bachelor Of Music from the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba training with Andrew Lorenz.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently have three piano students. Two sisters aged 8 and 11 and one boy aged 5. They are having a lot of fun learning to improvise in a blues style, and sometimes enjoy branching off and creating surprising melodies of their own. I always like to encourage them to lead the lesson if possible and like to think that thinking creatively for themselves like this will help them develop good problem solving skills in later life.
