About Gwen
I'm a software engineer with six years at Amazon and a master's in computer science from Northeastern. Outside of my day job, I've spent more than ten years teaching and tutoring — everything from helping fellow students through their CS classes to running evening programming classes for elementary and middle schoolers and teaching at a summer coding camp.
I work with everyone from young kids taking their first crack at code to college students pushing through tough courses, and I'm patient with beginners — I like the part where something that seemed confusing finally makes sense. I've also built and shipped my own software, including games and web apps that real people use.
Whether you're a parent looking for someone reliable to get your kid started, or a student trying to keep your head above water in a class, I am happy to help.

Every session works from whatever you've got in front of you — homework, a project, a bug you can't crack, or an exam coming up. We dig into it together, and I make sure you understand why it works, so the next one you can handle yourself. The one thing I'll always do is connect what you're learning to how it actually gets used in real software, since that's what I do day to day.
If you're prepping for the AP Computer Science exams or a college midterm or final, we work through past problems and hit the topics you're shaky on so you walk in ready.
I teach all ages and levels. With younger kids it's usually an intro to coding, simple games, and basic web design. For high schoolers, AP Computer Science A in Java or AP Computer Science Principles, exam prep included. For college students, intro CS, data structures, and first programming courses in Java, Python, or JavaScript, plus getting through midterms and finals. Total beginner or barely hanging on in a hard class — either way I can help.
