I've been passionate about coding for a long time, but I feel like the coding skills I learned in school simply couldn't keep up. By the time I finished all of my school's programming courses, for instance, we had learned nothing about installing external libraries or using source control - quintessential concepts used by the vast majority of developers worldwide. And I was relatively lucky - I had amazing teachers and 3 CS courses in my school's curriculum, where most schools only have 1 or even 0. This is why I, as a tutor, want to not only help programming students of all ages on their existing coursework (whether it's AP CS or introductory coding), but also to introduce them to what goes beyond all of that. Here is some stuff I can teach: 1. Python I teach everything from Python fundamentals—loops, conditionals, lists, dictionaries, and package installation—to advanced topics like object-oriented and functional programming, async programming, and more. Along the way, I'll teach students in deploying their own discord bot, modifying Minecraft with MakeCode, creating console-based programs and more. 2. Java and Kotlin (AP level or above) I cover the full AP Computer Science A curriculum, including Java syntax, OOP, and file handling. Furthermore, I can delve into concepts like annotation processing, code generation, and functional programming, tools like Gradle, and programming languages like Kotlin—a modern alternative to Java. 3. Programming FRC Robots In addition, I can assist students in coding and simulating their own FRC robot (or debugging an existing codebase) in Java or Kotlin. I can also teach concepts such as trajectory following, vision-based pose estimation, simulating 3D models and collisions, and more. 4. Web Development I teach students HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React, along with TypeScript, async/await, REST APIs, and both OOP and functional programming paradigms. Students will also learn to deploy their own websites (that everyone can see). 5. Developer tools I also teach students how to use version control (like GitHub and Git), IDEs (like VSCode and IntelliJ), and more.
