I think the best way to learn a subject is through practise. So, in the past where i have tutored i have given questions to students to try first independently, this highlights where the lack of knowledge is and what needs to be explained better or differently. Then working through problems together improves both confidence and understanding.
I am a Biochemistry student at the University of Manchester, currently on my placement year. During upper school/6th form i was a tutor for Maths and English for ages ranging from 5-16 and so have experience in explaining a variety of topics to all different abilities. I personally always understand topics better when discussing them with people which is why i think tutoring can be so beneficial to solidify understanding.
