I am 17 years old and currently working on my A levels, I have previously tutored my younger sister in Biology and have had great results. I teach by using whiteboards to almost lecture in a way, I like to do interactive activities such as matching up cards and I find turning details such as equations into a story is often efficient when teaching and improving memory. I also like to use mini quizzes to keep up to date with progress levels.
As a tutor I am supportive but stern as I like to be treated with respect in order to achieve the best results. However I am also compassionate and understanding, I like to build a friendship with those I tutor or mentor as this helps me to work better as I am able to learn how best my tutee or mentee works.
I have not been giving lessons very long, from September last year I have been tutoring a twelve year old in reading and comprehension skills, I have also been tutoring my younger sister who is 14 in biology, this is how I learned the most effective techniques in teaching such as using the whiteboard. However as a student myself I have also learned effective techniques when revising such as flashcards and mind maps.
