About Jessica

Hello, my name is Jessica, and I’m happy to help you build confidence in math!

I graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with a degree in Architectural Engineering, and I currently work as a Civil/Structural engineer. I use math every day to design real structures, so I know both how it is taught and how it is applied.

My experience in education includes working as a substitute teacher for middle school students and as an instructional student assistant for college courses. Through this work, I have helped learners of many ages and skill levels, and I know where students most often get stuck.

As a tutor, I am patient, organized, and encouraging. I believe that anyone can improve at math when concepts are explained clearly and practiced at a comfortable pace. My goal is for you to understand the reasoning behind each step so that you feel prepared for homework, quizzes, and exams.

Hi, I’m Jessica! I’m a Cal Poly SLO Architectural Engineering grad and work as a Civil/Structural engineer. I’ve also been a middle school substitute teacher and a college instructional student assistant, so I’ve explained math to many kinds of learners.

My teaching method:
I focus on the “why” behind each step, not just the answer. That way, you can solve problems you haven’t seen before, which is what matters on tests. I break hard problems into small steps, work an example with you, and then have you try the next one yourself. I’ll explain things a few different ways until one clicks.

A typical lesson:
Check-in (5 min): We go over what you’re working on and where you’re stuck.
Concept review (15-20 min): I teach the idea with a worked example.
Guided practice (20-30 min): You solve problems while I coach, not take over.
Wrap-up (5 min): We recap, and I give you a few practice problems for next time.

What sets me apart:
I’m a working engineer who uses math in real projects, and I know how teachers and professors present it. My classroom experience means I’m used to spotting exactly where students get lost, and I’m patient.
