About Heather
I’m a Cambridge University Medical Student studying to be a Doctor. I completed my A levels during covid, including independently teaching myself A level Maths (I enjoyed it as an extra challenge alongside my 3 A levels in school). This led to me developing robust study techniques. I achieved straight 9s and A*s across GCSE and A level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. I also achieved top scores in the medical school admissions test (the UCAT), scoring in the top 1% for QR and AR. My tutoring journey started during my GCSEs when I volunteered to tutor students failing from bottom sets in lower school science and maths. It was here I saw first-hand students who had been written off by teachers, who with regular support from me and my peers, began to enjoy studying and achieve good grades. The belief that bad grades are a product of the previous environment a student has been in and not their individual talent is something I have carried throughout my tutoring journey. It’s something that inspires me to provide a supportive environment for all my students. I carried on honing my tutoring skills and methods for the next 7 years throughout the end of my GCSEs, A levels and my time at University. A massive contributing factor to my tutoring methods is the supervisions I have experienced at Cambridge University. Through applying the teaching techniques learnt from my supervisors (top professors in their field), I have developed the ability to teach students to think laterally and put together mentally separated pieces of knowledge to form a full picture of a topic.

I believe any student with the right time and support can achieve a 9 or an A*. Through many years of tutoring I have supported students who started by hating studying, and who were just hoping to pass their exams, into achieving top grades. My two main approaches to this are present in each lesson. First, each session we focus on a different topic and build up knowledge together from first principles, starting with the student's baseline understanding and using methods honed by the Oxbridge style of supervisions, together we build up to an airtight view of the entire specification. Next, exam questions. We work through exam questions as a team practising the techniques needed to achieve top grades. At the end of our time, I will then send a student away with questions they have practised the skills to answer. We will start our next session by going through the hard parts of these exam questions. I have tutored students through all of the main GCSE and A level syllabi. I've also worked with a wide variety of student learning styles and have a repertoire of different ways to adapt my tutoring to your learning style. I also have proven spaced repetition techniques that make sure topics we study together are maintained and revised across sessions so you can smash your exams.
