About Lauren
Hi, I'm Lauren! I'm a CELTA-qualified English teacher with a background that combines academic training, professional writing experience, and hands-on classroom time with students of all ages.
I hold a CELTA certification, the internationally recognized standard for English language teaching, and I studied journalism, which gave me a strong foundation in grammar, clear communication, and breaking down complex ideas into something simple and understandable.
My teaching experience is varied and grounded in real classroom and one-on-one work. I volunteered as an English tutor in Spain, worked with School on Wheels supporting students navigating housing instability, and spent time as a children's reading grader and tutor at Kumon. Each of these experiences taught me how to adapt to different learning styles, build trust quickly, and create a space where students feel comfortable making mistakes as part of learning.

My Teaching Method and Techniques
My approach is conversation-first and student-led. As a CELTA-qualified teacher, I focus on building real communication skills rather than memorized rules. I use TPR (Total Physical Response), visual aids, and natural repetition to help students absorb English without relying on translation, keeping lessons interactive, low-pressure, and genuinely engaging.
A Typical Lesson
I usually start with a warm-up to gauge energy and comfort level, then move into the day's focus, whether that's vocabulary, grammar in context, or free conversation. I build in plenty of speaking practice, gentle correction, and positive reinforcement, and I always leave room to follow a student's natural curiosity if a topic sparks their interest.
What Sets Me Apart
I studied journalism, so strong writing and grammar have always been a core strength of mine. That background gives me a sharp eye for the mechanics of English and a natural ability to explain grammar clearly and simply, without making it feel like a lecture. I'm patient, adaptable, and genuinely enjoy tailoring each lesson to the person in front of me, whether that means slowing down for a beginner or challenging a more advanced student with nuance and idiom.
