About Michael

Hello, I’m Michael, a CELTA-qualified English teacher based in Dublin with around 15 years of experience teaching adults in Italy and Ireland.

I currently teach Upper Intermediate and IELTS preparation classes at an English language college in Dublin. Before moving to Ireland, I was Assistant Director of Studies at a language school in Milan, where I trained and observed other teachers, designed courses and placed students at the right level. That experience means I know what good teaching looks like, and I hold my own lessons to the same standard.

I hold the CELTA, the internationally recognised Cambridge qualification for English language teachers, as well as a B.A. in English with Philosophy. I speak Italian and Turkish, so I understand from personal experience the challenges of learning a language as an adult, and how much patience, encouragement and clear guidance matter.

My students include university applicants, professionals and people building a new life in Ireland. Many have achieved the IELTS scores they needed for study, work and visa applications, and many more have simply found the confidence to speak English freely at work and in everyday life.

You can expect punctual, well-prepared lessons, honest feedback and a friendly, supportive atmosphere where making mistakes is part of learning. I’d be delighted to help you reach your goals.

My approach

Every course starts with a conversation. In our first lesson I find out why you’re learning English, where you are now and where you need to get to, so the lessons are planned around you rather than a textbook.

My teaching is communicative and practical: you’ll spend most of the lesson speaking, writing and using the language, not listening to me talk. I introduce new grammar and vocabulary through real contexts, then we practise it until it feels natural. I give clear, honest feedback on your mistakes, focusing on the ones that matter most for your goals, and after each lesson you’ll know exactly what to work on next. I prepare all the materials myself, drawing on authentic texts, recordings and exam-style tasks.

For IELTS students, lessons are built around the exam. We work through all four papers with timed practice, model answers and strategies for each question type. I mark your Writing Tasks 1 and 2 against the official band descriptors and run mock Speaking tests, so you know where you stand and how to raise your score.
