My approach to tutoring is patient, encouraging, and personalized to each student. I understand that reading and writing do not come naturally to everyone, so I focus on making lessons comfortable and easy to follow rather than overwhelming.
As a recent college graduate with a degree in Communications focused on Public Relations and a minor in Journalism, I have extensive experience with writing, editing, research, storytelling, and communicating ideas clearly. I also have three years of experience working directly with college students as a Residential Assistant, which taught me how to work with different personalities, learning styles, and levels of confidence.
A typical lesson will depend on what the student needs. We may work through a current essay or assignment, practice reading comprehension, brainstorm ideas, improve grammar and sentence structure, or learn how to organize a paper from beginning to end. Rather than simply correcting a student's work, I explain why something should be changed so they can apply what they learn to future assignments.
I can work with middle school, high school, and college students who want extra support with English, reading comprehension, essays, academic writing, editing, or general writing skills. My goal is for students to leave each session feeling more confident in their own abilities and more comfortable expressing their ideas through writing.
