About Sophia
Hi, I’m Sophia, a Mathematics and Computer Science major at McDaniel College. I am dedicated to helping students succeed in Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus by providing patient, structured, and focused tutoring. I base each session on the student’s current curriculum, ensuring that I support their learning without going beyond what their teacher has covered. My teaching approach is centered around supporting what students are currently learning in their classes. I do not create separate or unrelated lesson plans. Instead, I base each session directly on the student’s current curriculum, homework assignments, review packets, and upcoming exams. This ensures that we stay aligned with their teacher’s expectations and do not move ahead in a way that causes confusion.
A typical lesson begins with identifying what topic the student is working on that week. We review the key concept as it was taught in class, clarify any misunderstandings, and then work through similar problems together. I focus on explaining the reasoning behind each step so students understand why a method works, not just how to apply it. If needed, we revisit foundational skills that connect directly to the current topic.
What sets me apart is my structured and patient approach. As a Math and Computer Science student taking a rigorous course load, I understand how overwhelming these subjects can feel. I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through mistakes. I adapt my explanations to different learning styles and focus on building confidence alongside skill.
My lessons are ideal for:
