About Nova
Hello! My name is Nova Holcomb, and I am a student studying Communication Sciences and Disorders at Georgia Southern University. I have many years of experience in pedagogy, and have served as a junior interventionist in the schools before. I have a Teaching Certification through NOCTI (which does NOT make me a certified teacher, but rather certifies that I have gone through rigorous coursework in child development, teaching and tutoring methods, classroom management, and curriculum development). I have a passion for education and teaching, and love to share that passion with the world!

As a college student with much experience in successful tutoring and relevant coursework in pedagogy and classroom management, I know what it takes to ensure students can pick up new information. I take a student-centered approach to education and tutoring, making sure that my students are just as involved in what they learn as I am; I find that this builds rapport and helps me get an "in" with students.
A typical session with me starts with a "purging" session, where myself and my student(s) have an open discussion about what has been learned thus far, so that I can gauge where there may be gaps in learning and address them in the future. I then go through my curriculum for the day, ensuring it lines up with state standards where the student lives and that it is level and age appropriate. Questions are highly encouraged along the way! Then, we do practice and review of the session, and, if requested, homework will be assigned.
I primarily focus on mathematics and science from middle grades to adult learners, and do not often go to the elementary level. I have exceptional technical writing skills, as well, and as such, I also feel comfortable tutoring writing.
