I start with setting up a background of the problem/concept and introduce the topic with examples or somewhat..if questions so as to make the purpose of studying very clear. Then I cover the theoretical aspects and post that the further applications. Having gone through all those confusions myself, I know how much energy and time should be invested upon a particular topic; more importantly in which direction.
