About Katie
My passion for academics has always been a driving force in my life. I began my journey as an ESL student in elementary school and, through hard work and determination, went on to achieve a 99th percentile score on the SSAT and a perfect 800 on the SAT reading section. This experience shaped my deep appreciation for the learning process and the power of perseverance. Throughout my years in school, I’ve maintained a high level of motivation and ambition, and my goal is to pass on that same enthusiasm for learning to the students I work with.
As a high-achieving student who enjoys intellectual challenges, I began tutoring at the age of 19, driven by a desire to help younger students succeed. Over the past 8 years, I’ve worked with middle and high school students, guiding them to improve their reading and writing skills and helping them prepare for admissions to prestigious boarding schools and colleges. Many of my students have gone on to attend top-tier institutions, a testament to the personalized support and dedication I bring to each session.
My commitment to fostering a love for learning, combined with my ability to tailor lessons to each student's unique needs and interests, ensures that I not only help students succeed academically but also inspire them to become lifelong learners.

My approach to teaching is entirely student-centered, focusing on how each individual processes knowledge. During our first free session, I’ll take the time to understand your unique learning style, what aspect of your writing and reading skill you want to improve, what motivates or challenges you, and how you engage with information. This will allow us to create a teaching strategy specifically tailored to your needs.
Every learning plan is individualized based on your pace, current skills, prior experience, and most importantly, your interests. I believe that by aligning lessons with what excites you, we can bring joy into reading and writing, making the process not just effective, but enjoyable.
I also view myself as your thought partner in this journey—not just a tutor, but someone who helps you grow into a lifelong learner. Together, we'll build skills that extend beyond any test or assignment, fostering curiosity and a love for learning that stays with you.
I use a variety of advanced techniques—from memory-boosting strategies and mind mapping to creative games and culturally relevant materials—to ensure we explore the most effective ways for you to learn. Everyone has their own way of learning, and together we’ll uncover what works best for you and structure our lessons that way.
