About Anna

I initially wanted to play the piano because I loved KPOP songs and Studio Ghibli music. I fell in love with classical music when I began learning with Japanese pianist and Guildhall alumnus Asako Ogawa when I was 13. Though much later than most of my peers, within 3 years I achieved Distinction in my ABRSM Grade 8 exam.

I recently graduated my Bachelor’s of Classical Piano Performance with first class honours and I’m currently studying Master’s in collaborative piano with professor Eugene Asti at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. I have a particular interest in art song accompaniment and piano pedagogy as I have always had a good relationship with children and teaching inspires me.

I have private in-person and online teaching experience with students aged 4-18 at beginner level to grade 6. I was a trusted deputy piano teacher for younger students when my teacher was on leave to assist in grade exam preparation. I studied instrumental teaching and piano pedagogy during undergraduate.

My piano teaching method is a blend of Japanese, Russian and modern British pedagogy. You will experience learning quality tone production of notes and listening awareness of your sound before anything else from the Russian style, thorough guidance on how to execute and detailed feedback taken from the Japanese tradition.

My lessons aim to develop each student to become independent musicians who can interpret music in their own way, not what I want them to say. Even from our first lesson you can learn to make your own musical decisions in your pieces.

Whether you wish to learn piano together to play your favourite movie soundtracks or to complete classical piano grade exams, I believe that we learn everything best when we have fun in a safe and encouraging environment. Our lessons will not just equip you with piano techniques but also ways to make practice enjoyable and productive.
-ABRSM syllabus for grade exam pathway.
-Learn music theory through fun rhythm games, unlock your creativity with melody composition and improvisation activities.
-Aural and sight-reading learning made approachable.
-Advice on setting practise goals and practise methods.

Areas covered such as: Forest Hill, Brockley, Honor Oak, East Dulwich, Sydenham, Crystal Palace, Greenwich and Central London.

Details

Fee per lesson is £50, additional travel charges may apply for lessons outside my local area.
Tuition is paid monthly before the first lesson of the month. If I have to cancel a lesson I will refund for it fully.

After a trial lesson, I will write up a report detailing observations about your current level (eg. tension points, note-reading comfort level, aural perception etc.) and the next steps I would take to support you forwards. This is only for you to have an idea of the direction when studying with me. After the document is sent, there is no pressure to continue if you don’t think we are a fit.

You will get a free stationary kit with a music folder, a practice journal and a manuscript book when you pay for your first month of tuition. ️
