About Dan
I want to teach English because I am passionate about literature and language and know, through experience, I can also use pass on my skills and Knowledge to inspire the next generation to feel the same. I am a writer, an avid reader, and understand the power of words and texts can change young lives.
I have over thirty years of work experience and much of that has been spent working with, young people to achieve their career and life aspirations. I have primarily worked in film and the creative Industries and one of the biggest issues is finding pathways into the sector. I have helped young people, many of them not in education, training or work, and mentored them to go on to find employment or apprenticeships in their chosen field in film, visual effects, animation and writing. Teaching them the skills to do this has been fulfilling and affirming.
Over those thirty years I have developed very strong written and verbal communication skills. I have worked with schools, universities, FE colleges as well as government departments and stakeholders. I know how to work with, and manage, different personalities.
I have run many projects with young people. I was the first person to bring BFI Film Academies to Wales to support 16–19-year-olds in VFX and animation training. I’ve set up two youth festivals providing opportunities to make, watch and learn about films. I have also set up the UK’s first young cinema programmer’s project. This saw young people ages 16 to 19 working with venues to put on films for their peers. I also set up the young Welsh Artist of the Year award to recognise young talent. I have always wanted to do the best for the young people I have worked with. To see them go on and develop further opportunities for themselves is the ultimate reward for the work you put in.

I have classroom experience but understand that type of teaching isn't for everyone. I can adapt to the needs of the pupil appropriately. I am encouraging and motivating. I usually give 1hr lessons with a plan that can be shared.
I am a current PGCE English Literature mature student, with school placement experience, but I also have a lot of life and work experience, primarily in the creative industries (skills, education, partnerships). I can teach ages 11-16 on set texts, creative writing and grammar. I work with the key stage three curriculum.
