About Ashley
I am currently an elementary teacher. I began by teaching 13 kindergarten students. At the beginning of the year, we began by learning the basics: letter names, sounds, and vowels. By the end of the year, every student was reading full books that contained words with many special sounds and two or three syllables.

As a current elementary teacher, I believe that phonics is the most effective way of learning to read. Phonics gives a student the tools he needs to sound out almost any word he comes in contact with, whether he is in kindergarten or in high school.
