Find out more about Victor

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed my passion for teaching in college, as I taught physics for over 300 undergraduate students during weekly review sessions. It was inspiring to see my students grasp new concepts as I guided them through practice problems and taught them how to think through novel questions.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach physics, chemistry, and algebra. I enjoy hearing about where a student is in their courses, listening to why a student may be struggling, and identifying how a student can benefit the most from additional tutoring.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Prior exemplary teachers have been inspirational role models for me. The way they truly cared about their students and their ability to break down complex ideas into digestible parts are qualities I hope to bring for my students.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Great tutors are warm, patient, and encouraging. They understand that students may not grasp concepts on the first pass and find ways to raise them up so they feel confident in their knowledge and abilities.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

When teaching physics, it's often helpful to use real-world examples to better understand concepts. Many times while leading review sessions in front of a blackboard in college, I used the blackboard erasers to demonstrate concepts and make it easier for students to visualize how they work.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Common challenges that students face involve applying problem-solving techniques to novel problems. To overcome these, it's important to get as much practice as possible. That way, when faced with a new problem, students can feel more comfortable and confident remembering these past techniques and finding the right solution.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Medicine and teaching are my passions. I hope to teach medical students and residents one day to combine these two interests and pass down my knowledge and experiences.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

I'm a Superprof because of my enthusiasm and dedication to my students! I aim to uplift my students and build their confidence in solving problems throughout their courses.
