About Sophie
Building confidence is at the core of my tutoring philosophy. I aim not only to improve academic performance but also to help students trust their abilities and develop independent learning skills that extend beyond our sessions. I maintain a supportive, respectful, and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging actively in their learning process. As a medical student with extensive tutoring experience, I bring both academic credibility and professionalism to my work. I am a current medical student who graduated with honors with a major in Biology and minors in English and Sustainability from the University of the Pacific. During my time at UOP, I tutored for 3 years at the undergraduate tutoring center, focusing on general biology and chemistry, anatomy and physiology, genetics, biochemistry, intro to psychology, and organic chemistry I and II.
Throughout my college journey, I experienced the challenges of adjusting to new academic demands, particularly in science courses. I hadn't fully developed studying patterns when I started, but through trial and error, I discovered effective note-taking techniques that helped me succeed. This sparked my passion for tutoring and helping other students gain confidence in their science courses, just as I did.
I take a personalized approach to tutoring, providing all of my students with an outline to structure our sessions. However, I recognize that every student has their own learning style, so I adapt each lesson to meet individual needs. I have experience tutoring students of all ages, from high school to college level, and I believe that with the right study schedule and strategies, mastering difficult subjects is absolutely achievable. My goal is to make learning accessible, adaptable, and engaging for every student I work with.
