About Ilana
I graduated from Garfield High School with a 4.0 having completed Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and AP Statistics, scoring a 5 on all 3 AP exams. I also tutored in math classes for Garfield High School fall 2021-spring 2025, including Algebra I and II, and AP Calculus AB.
In addition, I worked as a teacher's assistant at a local synagogue for 4 years, teaching students ages 8-14 basic Hebrew.
Aside from math and teaching experience, I am super excited to work with any student in need of math tutoring. I hope to help each student find the same love and interest in math that I have! Math doesn't have to be boring, and I aim to prove that.

I believe strongly in the concept of "see one, do one, teach one," but perhaps taking more than one of each. By this I mean that my method focuses on showing a few examples of a math concept, then asking them to solve a few problems with only necessary assistance, and then asking them to teach me how to do it. The biggest evidence of understanding is the ability to teach someone else that concept. Only when a student can successfully teach me a concept will they truly be a master of it.
I pride myself in my patience and empathy when it comes to tutoring. My goal is for students to feel comfortable and confident in trying things out. It's ok to make mistakes, that is why I'm here!
