• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  My interest in mathematics and English began during my school years. I was fascinated by the problem-solving nature of maths and the creativity of English. Private tutoring became a natural extension of this passion, allowing me to help students excel in these subjects and gain confidence in their abilities.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I tutor mathematics up to GCSE level and English for primary school students. In maths, I particularly enjoy teaching topics such as algebra and geometry because of their logical challenges. In English, I focus on developing reading comprehension and writing skills. Although I find some advanced mathematical concepts less engaging, I approach all topics with the same commitment to ensuring students understand them.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  I was inspired by several excellent teachers who had a profound impact on my education. Their ability to make complex topics accessible and their passion for teaching motivated me to pursue tutoring. Their approach to engaging students and fostering a positive learning environment greatly influenced my own teaching style.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  To be a good tutor, one must be patient, communicative, and adaptable. It's essential to be able to explain concepts clearly and make learning engaging. Additionally, empathy and encouragement are crucial for building students' confidence and helping them overcome challenges.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  One memorable moment was helping a primary school student who struggled with reading comprehension. After several focused sessions, their reading skills improved significantly, and their enthusiasm for reading grew. This experience highlighted the positive impact of personalised support and reinforced my dedication to tutoring.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  One challenge I've faced is addressing the varied learning needs of my students. Each student has a unique learning style, and finding the most effective approach for each can be challenging. However, adapting my methods and continuously learning new strategies has helped me overcome this.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  While I am passionate about teaching both maths and English, I have a particular enthusiasm for helping students develop a love for reading and writing. This aspect of teaching is especially rewarding as it fosters both academic growth and a lifelong appreciation for literature.
