About Yolandi
I am a qualified teacher and have been in the teaching profession for 14 years. I have taught a diverse age group of students as well as subjects.
Poetry is my own special interest. I studied Renaissance Literature as an extra module whilst doing my degree, purely for my own interest in poetry and Shakespeare.
Although I love it, I understand that it can be a hard nut to chew for some. My goal is to make that nut just a little softer and tastier and maybe a taste for it will even develop.
It makes me sad to see students swallow poems down without realizing the value they could have gained if it had just been served to them in a more appetizing manner.
Maybe you just need to get through an exam, maybe you just want to explore poetry. Let's chew that nut and see what we find.

My lessons are one-on-one and based on discussion of the content. This ensures that a deep understanding of the content is achieved and that the content provides value in the form of critical thought, self-awareness and emotional intelligence.
I am able to teach in English and Afrikaans and my lessons are aimed at students who are preparing for exams or individuals who would like to explore the world of poetry for their own self-growth in a relaxed and conversational manner.
My teaching style is relaxed and conversational so that we can chew through the tough bits until they've been dissolved in understanding. For students who are preparing for exams I will explain all the hard poetry stuff like structures and figures of speech so that it is understandable and easy to remember. Poetry is not all serious and academic, it was written for you and me to sink into and enjoy!
