About Susan

I teach with a blend of patience and joy, because I firmly believe learning should be an enjoyable and empowering experience. My method is highly student-focused: I begin by asking questions and encouraging students to share their routines and interests. This allows me to design lessons that are both engaging and practical, directly connecting to their lives. By combining structured guidance with a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere, I help students learn effectively while also feeling supported. As far as legitimacy, I have a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education, a Master's in Special Education, my TESOL, and I just started studying for my TEFL.

My Tutoring Approach Teaching Method and Techniques I teach with a mixture of patience and joy. I believe learning should be fun, not stressed or forced. My lessons are student-centered: I begin by asking questions and learning about my students’ daily routines, interests, and challenges. This allows me to tailor lessons that fit their lives and keep learning meaningful. A Typical Lesson Plan A lesson usually starts with a short warm-up or discussion to engage the student and build comfort. Then, we move into the main activity—whether it’s reading, speaking, grammar, or writing—always guided by the student’s needs. I include practice, correction, and reflection, and finish with a short review plus a preview of what’s next. What Sets Me Apart I am an older teacher who has lived through many of life’s ups and downs. Because of this, I bring empathy, understanding, and real-life experience to each lesson. I view my life as a treasure trove of situations that help me connect with students and guide them not only academically but also with encouragement and confidence. Who the Lessons Are For My lessons are for learners who want English tutoring at all levels, with a special focus on adults and young adults. I especially enjoy working with B-level (intermediate) students who are strengthening their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and conversational skills. Each plan is individualized to the student’s goals, whether academic, professional, or personal. Sample Lesson Plan: B2 Reading Comprehension Objective: By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to read and understand a short text, identify main ideas and supporting details, and express personal opinions about the topic. Length: 45–60 minutes 1. Warm-Up (5 minutes) Ask: “What do you usually read in your free time—news, books, blogs, or something else?” Brief discussion to activate background knowledge. 2. Pre-Reading (5 minutes) Introduce the topic of the reading (e.g., technology and daily life). Teach 3–4 key vocabulary words that will appear in the text. 3. Reading Activity (15 minutes) Student reads a short article (300–400 words). First reading: for general understanding (skimming). Second reading: for details (scanning). 4. Comprehension Questions (10 minutes) Multiple choice (main idea). True/False (details). Short answer (inference/opinion). 5. Discussion (10 minutes) Ask open-ended questions: “Do you agree with the author’s point of view? Why or why not?” Encourage personal connections to the text. 6. Wrap-Up (5 minutes) Review vocabulary and key ideas. Assign optional homework: find a short article in English and bring 3 questions about it to the next lesson.
