About Andrew

Hello there! I'm Andrew, and I'm not your typical math tutor. With a silver medal in the National Mathematics Competition, another silver from the Asia International Mathematics Olympiad, and a history of top prizes in various mathematics competitions, I've got the math chops to help you conquer any math challenge. But what really sets me apart is my passion for making math fun and accessible for all. Let's embark on this math adventure together!

About the lesson

As a tutor, my teaching methodology revolves around creating a supportive and interactive learning environment. I tailor my approach to each student's needs, ensuring a personalized learning experience. Here's my typical lesson plan:

Warm-Up:

Begin with a quick review of the previous lesson's key concepts or any homework questions the student may have.

Introduction:

Define and explain new concepts or definitions and its significance in mathematics. Introduce new algebraic equations and explain how they are a way to represent relationships and solve unknown values.

Basic Equation Solving:

Walk the student through solving a basic algebraic equation step by step. Provide a few simple examples of the algebraic equation.

Guided Practice:

Give the student a few practice equations to solve together. Start with straightforward equations and gradually increase complexity as the student gains confidence. Provide guidance and feedback throughout the practice.

Independent Practice:

Provide the student with a set of algebraic equations to solve independently. Encourage them to use the techniques learned during the lesson. Offer assistance if they encounter challenges.

Wrap-Up:

Review the key takeaways from the lesson, emphasizing the importance of practice. Ask the student if they have any questions or if there are specific areas they'd like to revisit in the next session. Assign homework, which may include additional equation-solving problems, for reinforcement.

Homework Assignment:

Assign a few algebraic equation problems for the student to complete before the next session. Provide clear instructions and any necessary resources.

Feedback and Goal Setting:

Offer positive feedback on the student's progress and efforts during the lesson. Discuss the goals for the next session and any specific topics or areas the student wants to focus on.

The pace and complexity of the lesson will be adjusted according to the student's age and skill level, so that I can instill not only mathematical knowledge but also a love for problem-solving and a growth mindset in my students.
