About Maya

My academic background includes Computer Science studies at Arizona State University, where I developed skills in software design, computational thinking, and algorithm development. I previously taught introductory programming at Mesa Community College, helping learners progress from basic coding concepts to structured problem-solving. Over nine years of teaching and tutoring, I’ve developed an approach that encourages students to experiment, analyze results, and become independent developers.

One distinctive activity I use is “Build, Break, Improve.” Students begin with a small working program, introduce a new feature, test what happens, and investigate any unexpected results. We then refine the code for clarity and reliability. This process builds debugging skills, logical reasoning, and the confidence to create original projects rather than simply copy examples.

About the lesson

Lessons are built around small projects with a purpose. You might create a quiz application, design a simple website, automate a repetitive task, or code a basic physics simulation. I provide guidance with school assignments, college programming projects, coding challenges, and exam preparation while helping you understand each decision in your code. Sessions are adapted to your pace, with time to experiment, ask questions, and improve your solutions.
