The lessons are evidence based methods to ensure success. Focusing on decodable texts. I ground my teaching in the Science of Reading, which emphasizes explicit, systematic, and evidence-based instruction in how students learn to read. My method includes:
Phonological and phonemic awareness
Phonics and decoding
Fluency practice
Vocabulary development
Comprehension strategies
I rely heavily on multi-sensory techniques (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile), meaning students see, hear, say, and write words to strengthen neural connections.
Typical Lesson Plan
45–60 minute session usually follows this structure:
Review (5 minutes): Quick recall of sounds, sight words, or concepts from the last lesson.
Phonemic Awareness (5 minutes): Oral activities (segmenting, blending, manipulating sounds).
Phonics/Decoding (15 minutes): Introduce or practice a spelling pattern, with direct modeling and guided practice.
Fluency (10 minutes): Choral or repeated reading with feedback.
Vocabulary (10 minutes): Explicit teaching of new words with morphology (prefixes, roots, suffixes).
Comprehension (10–15 minutes): Reading a short passage together, using think-alouds and guided questioning.
Wrap-up (5 minutes): Quick review and preview of the next step, plus independent practice suggestions.
